21st Sunday in Ordinary Time August 25th 2019
Dark Red Book page 127

The Newsletter this week is created in haste following the marriage of our beloved daughter Lisa Jo to Bruno yesterday at OLSS and ongoing celebrations today. Number 68 has never witnessed an event quite like this with so many excited women preparing for the event throughout the morning. The priest’s daughter finally emerged looking fantastic! Best for me to keep a low profile while all that was happening! A great day all around ended with a

splendid party at the Trafalgar Tavern and live music with a great band fronted up by the Bride herself later in the evening! Sincere thanks to everybody who has helped and contributed in so many different ways to make this such a happy day, preparing the church, music and all associated details. You all know who you are!

A number of people commented on the homily wondering what the final moral of the story actually might have been? I realised later that everything was explained in Portuguese and then we forgot to say it in English…

At the wedding in Cana, Mary took control of the event. There was a lot of very good wine… far more than the guests could drink! 6 stone jars each holding 30=180 GALLONS of Wine! Curiously that is 1440 Pints (the same heavenly number mentioned in Revelation 7v1-8) But we don’t serve wine in pints we serve it in 75cls. That would have been 908 Bottles of very good wine. If there were 100 people at the wedding that would have been more than 9 bottles each! It would have been intended for taking home and laying down in cellars. Such wine would have been stored for years to come and another great celebration in the future perhaps e.g. The Resurrection! Mary took control of the situation at the wedding. Some wives like to be in control of events not just for one day but throughout married life! The secret in these circumstances for all concerned is Patience and Kindness as St Paul told us in the 1st reading. With Patience & Kindness, Love will overflow throughout married life just like the wine at the wedding!

Well I seemed to get the message over in Portuguese but the English were left wondering if it had just been a mathematical exercise in calculating wine supplies! Está bem.

God Bless
Fr Kevin

The only thing affecting our happy day was the unexpected collapse of my dad on Thursday afternoon. Dad should have been walking Lisa down the aisle. He is presently very weak but surfacing from a suspected minor stroke. At the present time he is in the same unit at UCL where Mum sadly passed away in May. My Mother had already paid for Lisa’s dress and like Mary was already in control of many things in preparation for the day! So once again we have hospital trips!

Farewell to Fr Tomasz Wergackbi who has been a great friend and help to us in Greenwich. Tomasz is going to the parish of St Wilfred in Kennington. We wish him God Bless in his new situation with thanks for his kindly ministry among us.
