The programme for Holy Week & Easter:

Next Sunday (weather permitting) we commence the Masses outside on the forecourt and in the street. Once again, we hear the solemn reading of the “Passion” this year according to St Luke.

In the evening of Palm Sunday Petra & Emily and their soprano friends will present “Leçons de Ténèbres” – 6.00pm at OLSS. This solemn meditation helps us to embark on the seven days of Christ’s Passion.

There will be a “Healing Mass” at 7.00pm on Tuesday 16th with Laying on of Hands and Anointing at St Joseph’s. If you have anxieties of any kind either for yourself or a loved one please come for this gentle ministry. (nb. NO WEDDING Admin that night).

Have you ever been to the Chrism Mass at Southwark Cathedral? It is an uplifting event. Everybody is welcome but you need to take a seat by 11.00am on Wednesday because there will be standing room only.

Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the Great Three Days “The Triduum”. There will be a Sung Mass with Foot Washing nb. at 7.00pm at St Joseph’s and at 8.00pm at OLSS where we keep a vigil until midnight. Good Friday sees the Stations of the Cross at OLSS at 10.00am and 7.00pm at St Joseph’s. The Children’s Good Friday Liturgy launches again at OLSS at 11.00am. At 10.30 all the local churches assemble on Blackheath for an Open-Air Service where many of our own people are always present.

The Solemn Good Friday Liturgy including Veneration of the Cross is at 3.00pm at both churches.

On Saturday do not forget that there is no 6.00pm. We assemble at 8.00pm at OLSS for the Proclamation of the Resurrection!

WE have SIX adult members preparing to become Catholics or completing the Full Rites of admission at Easter this year. Please Remember: Olivia, Debbie, Paul, Hannah, Joseph & Katie who will be Baptised & Confirmed into the Catholic Faith at the Easter Vigil.

New Baby. A special thought for Tom & Katie & Gillian. #2 Baby Heather arrived prematurely last week at just 30 weeks. She is presently in the special care baby unit at Lewisham Hospital but all good signs of progress.

‘A person is a kind of sacrament’

I have been working for nearly 3 yrs now at the ‘British Home & Hospital for Incurables’ – all the residents have very severe neuro-disabilities as well as very severe physical handicaps, all are wheelchair-bound – many cannot speak, some need help with just holding a cup, some cannot even do this & have to be fed. But these are just the ‘outward visible signs’ – over the last 2+ years I have learned to see past their disabilities & got to know & love each one of them as a person in their own right, each with their own unique (& often funny/quirky!) personality (their ‘inward invisible grace’) Things become clearer as you get older, don’t they?!
