Greetings & prayerful wishes from Fr Victor:

I am back again in my homeland after having spent seven weeks with you at Greenwich, enjoying the warmth of your love, friendship and hospitality. It was an occasion for me to refresh and renew my relationship with you all. It is always nice to be at Greenwich where I spent two full years helping Fr. Kevin in the parish, simultaneously doing my Masters in theology at Heythrop. I specially thank Fr. Kevin, whose love and friendship I always cherish with gratitude, for having made it possible for me to be with you once again during my summer vacation. I was amazed by the amount of work Fr. Kevin has done in both the churches during the past three years, and I was deeply impressed and pleased to see the growth of the parish community at St. Joseph’s church. I was quite happy and did enjoy my stay there, and I was really overwhelmed by the enormous love and generosity you all have shown to me.

As you know, I left U.K. on 30th of May and reached Trichy to resume my duties at St. Paul’s Seminary, where I have been serving as a lecturer of theology since 2015 (See picture). It is a regional seminary belonging to the Arch-Diocese of Madurai, in Tamilnadu, India. There are about 121 students (Theology students 86, Philosophy students 35) in the seminary this academic year. Although the number appears to be big in comparison with the number of students in the seminaries in Europe, it is proportionately less comparing to the past. There is a decline in the number of vocations experienced in our

regions, partly due to the influence of globalisation and the reduction in the number of children in the families. There are 18 staff members in the seminary this year. I have been asked to teach in this semester Faith and Revelation, Priesthood, Christian Anthropology and Homiletics which constitute the foundations of the priestly life and ministry. Besides being teachers of theology, we are also responsible for the formation of the students. I am also in charge of the week-end ministry for the seminarians. The students of theology (except the deacons) are sent to nearly 25 remote backward villages in the diocese of Tiruchirapalli on week-ends for their pastoral ministry. In and through the week-end ministry, the seminarians are given a chance to interact with the life realities of the people from the lower strata of the society, and to identify themselves with the poor and to work for the upliftment of the poor. Every week I visit one of these villages, and guide and animate the students in their ministry. Contributing to their formation demands more than being a lecturer, and I enjoy doing it. I seek the assistance of all your prayers that the Spirit of God may assist me to carry out my duties conscientiously.

I guess you are slowly getting into the summer and many of you are getting ready for holidays. I wish you all a good time.

May God bless us all.
Fr. Victor.

Fr Martin also sends affectionate greetings and remembers you all!

Birthday of St. John the Baptist

First Holy Communion St Joseph “The Eucharist is at the heart of ‘Christian initiation’, together with Baptism and Confirmation, and it constitutes the source of the Church’s life itself. From this Sacrament of love, in fact, flows every authentic journey of faith, of communion, and of witness.” – Pope Francis

On a beautiful sunny Sunday last week, we gathered to celebrate the first holy communion of twenty-five of our young Church members. Over 200 people from our parish, family and friends came to support the children as they took this step in their spiritual development. The parents want to thank everyone who came to share this joyful occasion with us. We would like to thank Chrissi at Passion Flower in Blackheath for providing the beautiful flower arrangements and Mick and Michelle for providing their gift of music for the Mass. We want to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Sister Mary and Roseline for their hard work and the spiritual guidance they have provided our children for the last six months. We are truly blessed to have these two women working with our children. – Emory on behalf of FHC parents St Joseph’s
