Twenty-Seventh Sunday In Ordinary Time 8th October 2017
Orange Book Page 137

There are so many events coinciding that we must mention this week:

Last Friday was Cafod Harvest Fast day.

If you enjoy a nice lunch or dinner on Fridays, last week we should have gone without and put the saving into a Cafod Harvest envelope. Even if you didn’t “fast” you can still put something in the envelope today. So for example if you like Chicken Vindaloo with a Garlic Nan all the side dishes and a glass (bottle) of red wine you could put the same value into an envelope and let Cafod benefit from the proceeds. Martin Heaney always used to speak at OLSS on behalf of Cafod but since he recently retired to live in Lanzarote let’s hope he remembers to put the price of a Paella with Ouzo into an envelope over there. Meanwhile we welcome Maureen & Kezia at OLSS and Mick at St Joseph’s to speak on behalf of Cafod at the Masses this week.

The coming week 8th–14th October is:

Prisons Week”.

This is a combined Week of Prayer shared by all the churches for those affected by imprisonment. Not only prisoners and families and the victims of crime, but also staff and those caught up in any way with the prisons system. It is worth remembering that if we want people to be decent human beings in society then our prisons must be decent and humane places to prepare prisoners for release. All too often the effect of imprisonment can be dehumanising even for those who endeavour to work there upholding standards of human dignity and domestic life.

Next Saturday 18th is the DEANERY MASS at 6.00pm NB. AT OUR LADY OF GRACE CHARLTON.

Once a year the whole deanery including Thamesmead, Woolwich, Plumstead, Eltham & Charlton is brought together for one splendid celebration. There are No Saturday night Masses elsewhere including OLSS because we should endeavour to come to the Charlton Church. Fr Kevin Alban is the Guest Preacher.

The Theme will be ‘Year of the Family’

So please note next week there is NO 6.00pm Mass at OLSS but please come to Our Ladye of Grace Church in Charlton at that time.

Good Night Paddy & Frances – The Night Prayer

As I lay down on my side to sleep,
To God I give my soul to keep
If anything should happen
my sweet Jesus for to waken me.

There are four corners on my bed
There are four angels overhead,
St Mathew, Mark, Luke and John
God Bless the bed that I lay on
Infant Jesus meek and mild,
Look on me a little child.

Pity mine and pity me, suffer me to come to thee.
Sweet heart of Jesus I adore you
Sweet heart of Mary I implore you.

Sweet heart of Joseph pure and just
In these three hearts I place me trust
Sweet Jesus for love of thee
He bare his cross to Calvary.

Thy sweet mercy Grant to me,
To suffer and to die for me.

O angel of God My guardian dear
to whom his love commits me hear,

Be ever this day be at my side
To live and guard to rule and guide.

O Angel of God who has been appointed
to be my guardian in life and death
protect and govern me.
